Dongliao Black Pig is a specialty of Dongliao, Liaoyuan, Jilin. Dongliao black pig has a medium-sized head, wide forehead, drooping ears, a flat back, thick limbs, a black body, 6-8 pairs of male and female nipples arranged neatly, making it a dual-purpose pig for both meat and fat. The Dongliao Black Pig is a locally excellent breed of pig that was developed by crossbreeding Buckwheat boars with local pigs during the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China. After more than 20 years of breeding and continuous improvement, it has become an excellent hybrid mother pig. In 1986, the Jilin Provincial Animal Husbandry Bureau decided to list Dongliao Black Pig as a local good breed pig in Jilin and established a conservation base, forming a core group of 200 conservation pigs (at the county pig farm).
