Fenghuang Ancient City was built in the 43rd year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1704), and the ancient city buildings at the east and north gates are still standing. The bluestone streets, wooden stilted houses by the river, as well as buildings such as Chaoyang Palace, Ancient City Museum, Yang Family Ancestral Hall, Shen Congwen's Former Residence, Xiong Xiling's Former Residence, Tianwang Temple, Dacheng Hall, and Wanshou Palace all reflect the characteristics of the ancient city. [1] In 2001, Fenghuang Ancient City was awarded the title of National Historical and Cultural City. It is a Chinese historical and cultural city, a national AAAA level scenic spot, and one of the top ten cultural heritages in Hunan. On May 25, 2006, Fenghuang Ancient Castle was announced by the State Council as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. In October 2019, Fenghuang Ancient City was selected as one of the first "Town Aesthetic Role Models"
