the Old Town of Lijiang is located at,Ancient City District,Lijiang City,Yunnan Province, also known asDayan Town, located in the middle ofLijiangDam, built in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty (late 13th century AD),the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with an area of 7.279 square kilometers

The streets in the Old Town of Lijiang are built against the mountains and beside the water, and paved with red breccia. There areSifang Street,Mufu,Wufeng Building,Heilong Pool,Wenchang Palace,Wang Pizhen Memorial Hall,Snow Mountain Academy,Wangjiazhuang Christian Church,Fang Guoyu's Former Residence,Baima Longtan Temple,Gupeter's former residence,Jinglian Temple,Puxian Temple[3],Jiefeng Building,October Literature Museum,Memorial Hall of the Red Army's Long March through Lijiang Headquarters,Historical and Cultural Exhibition Hall of the Old Town of Lijiang,Xu Xiake Memorial Hall of the Old Town of Lijiangand other scenic spots[4][2]

Lijiang is one of the second batch of approvedChinese historical and cultural cities, and is one of the two ancient cities in China that successfully applied forWorld Cultural Heritageas a whole[5]the Old Town of Lijiang reflects the achievements of urban construction in ancient China and is one of the types with distinctive characteristics and styles in Chinese folk houses[1]the Old Town of Lijiang Scenic Spot is a national AAAAA tourist attraction


Ancient

the Old Town of Lijiang was built at the end of the Song Dynasty and the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty (the late 13th century). The ancestors of the Mu family in Lijiang moved the ruling center fromBaisha Ancient Townto the currentShizishan, and began to build a housing city, called "Dayachang"[7]

The name of the ancient city is said to have originated from the fact that the hereditary ruler of Lijiang had the surname Mu, and building the city would inevitably result in the character "difficult" being formed by adding a frame to the character "wood"@The Naxi name of 110#

the Old Town of Lijiang is "Gong Benzhi", "Gong Ben" isgranary, "Zhi" isbazaar, and the Old Town of Lijiang was once a granary distribution center

In the first year of Baoyou in the Southern Song Dynasty (1253), the Mongol army marched south, and the ancestor of the Mu clan, Azong Aliang, surrendered. Azong Aliang surrendered to Yuan Shizu and stationed troops here

In the 14th year of the Yuan Dynasty (1277), the Sanba Guan Min Guan was changed to Tong'an Prefecture, with its capital located in present-day Dayan Ancient City. In the same year, Lijiang Road was changed to connect to Anzhou

In the fifteenth year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1382), Ajia Ade, the governor of Tong'an Prefecture, submitted to the Ming Dynasty and established the Lijiang Military and Civilian Prefecture. Ajia Ade was given the surname "152# Mu" by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang and was granted the hereditary title of "154# Prefect"

In the 16th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty (1383),Mudebuilt the "Lijiang Military and Civilian Government Office" at the foot ofLion Mountain. Xu Xiake, a geographer from the Ming Dynasty who had traveled extensively to Yunnan, described in his book "166 Yunnan Travel Diary" that at that time, Lijiang City had a "community of houses and rows of tiled houses". In the late Ming Dynasty, the ancient city had more than a thousand households, and urban construction had already reached a considerable scale

In the second year of the Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1724), after the first Lijiang Liuguan Prefect, Yang Nan, took office, a new Liuguan Prefect's office, barracks, professor's office, training office, etc. were built under the northeast of the ancient city at Jinhongshan, and a city wall was built around these official buildings


Hyundai

On December 26, 2002,the State Councilofficially approved the removal of land from the Old Town of Lijiang to be a city, and the administrative area of Lijiang Ancient City was assigned toLijiangAncient City District

From June 24 to July 6, 2012, theWorld Heritage Committeeunder theUNESCOapproved the proposal of small boundary adjustment and buffer zone of the Old Town of Lijiang at the36th World Heritage Conferenceheld inRussiaSt. Petersburg, adjusting the area of the Old Town of Lijiang from 3.8 square kilometers to 7.279 square kilometers
