The Forbidden City was built in the 18th year of Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty (1420). She was formerly known as the Forbidden City. The total area is 724000 square meters, with a total construction area of 160000 square meters. The city is surrounded by a 10 meter high city wall with a circumference of 3248 meters. From Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty to Puyi's expulsion from the palace in the Qing Dynasty, there were 14 emperors of the Ming Dynasty and 10 emperors of the Qing Dynasty who lived and handled state affairs here for nearly 500 years
