After being renovated and improved by Kong Ming during the Three Kingdoms period, it was widely used in the Shu Kingdom and extensively used for agricultural irrigation during the Sui and Tang dynasties. The waterwheel in the Old Town of Lijiang is now mainly used as a landmark building and ornamental function<149.
