Lankao County is located in the middle of the huge alluvial fan formed by the Yellow River from Mengjin to the east. The surface and groundwater resources in Lankao are abundant. The rivers in Lankao County belong to the Yellow River and Huai River basins, which are divided into three water systems: the Yellow River system, the Dongyu River system, and the Wohe River system. The Yellow River system has two tributaries, Dadi Beigou and Jinyinggou. Dadi Beigou has a total length of 12.7 kilometers and a drainage area of 19.4 square kilometers; Jinyinggou has a total length of 8.25 kilometers and a drainage area of 18.2 square kilometers; After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Lankao also built multiple Yellow River diversion facilities such as Lankao Canal, Lanshang Canal, and Lanqi Canal, covering most towns and villages in the county.
